Marilyn Katz, a member of the Einstein Board of Trustees since 1997 and a cherished friend of the College of Medicine, died on Jan. 22, 2026, at the age of 92. Mrs. Katz was born into a Bronx family whose name is well known at Einstein. Her parents were the late Jack and Pearl Resnick, for whom the Einstein campus is named, and her younger brother was the late Burton P. “Burt” Resnick, a chair emeritus of the Einstein Board of Trustees.
When her sister, Susan Resnick Fisher, died of brain cancer at age 50 in 1993, Mrs. Katz became interested in cancer research. In 1998, she was named the founding chair of the Albert Einstein Cancer Center’s Cancer Research Advisory Board. That same year, Einstein recognized Mrs. Katz and her husband, Stanley, with the prestigious Einstein Humanitarian Award.
In 2008, their interest in cancer research led them to establish the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Comprehensive Cancer Prevention and Control Program. Since 2011, Mr. and Mrs. Katz have hosted annual Einstein events in Palm Beach, Fla., and have generously supported the Women’s Division Spirit of Achievement Luncheon, at which Mrs. Katz was honored in 2019. The Katzes also established Einstein’s Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz deanship.
In 2024, Mr. and Mrs. Katz made a transformative gift to establish the Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Institute for Immunotherapy for Cancer and Inflammatory Disorders. Led by XingXing Zang, Ph.D., the Katz Institute expands and enhances basic science and clinical cancer immunotherapy research at the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center and the College of Medicine. Also in 2024, Mr. and Mrs. Katz funded the renovation and revitalization of the newly named Marilyn and Stanley M. Katz Patio, an outdoor study and relaxation space for students.
Mrs. Katz was incredibly dedicated to the Einstein community, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. Read more about her life here.
